Meet the Teacher

          Basics

Hello, my name is Katia Miller, but the kids call me Mrs. K. I am so glad to be here at White Station Elementary. I live with my husband Eric and our two girls, Marlaina (18) and Neila (15). Marlaina is starting college at the U of M this fall and Neila will be  attending White Statin High School. We have 2 cats, a dog, a snake, and a Bearded Dragon. I enjoy making jewelry, scrapbooking, reading, being with my sweet family and friends, and my birthday is Valentine’s day.

Education

I graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in comprehensive    special education. I began my teaching career working with adults with disabilities and have since worked with kids and adults of all ages. Within the school system, I have taught preschool, expanded resource, functional skills, resource math, resource reading, as well as co-teaching. I’ve been teaching since 2000 and    have taught all elementary grade levels. During this time, I returned to the university and earned a master’s          endorsement in Deaf education and have a background in American Sign Language. I feel my various experiences enable me to understand different aspects of the learning from early intervention to graduation.
